'Vellum Generator' is an online album build, put together over eight weeks. One song per week was made, uploaded to Bandcamp and posted on Facebook and Twitter.
The process of carefully sequencing an album, to achieve the desired overall effect and pacing of the songs, was something I felt was open to manipulation, especially within the realms of digital music, streaming and shuffle. So with complete disregard for the finer points of music compiling, I switched on the generator and went forth with time as my curator, allowing the tracks to run in a natural chronological order.
I think what results is an album without fillers, as each track bears no intentional relationship to the previous one, bridges or breather tracks have no place here. As one would expect, there are stylistic changes, but the overall mood that developed over the eight weeks, seems cohesive enough and was influenced by a number of external elements, something that a strong concept would have ignored I think. My general mood from week to week, news stories, public transport, places I visited, people I met and being british, the weather! all influenced the music on a more immediate and visceral level.
